virusHow to Protect Yourself and Your Family when Everyone Else is PanickingMowbray Publishing

"Dear Lorena,

May I say that I was quite impressed with the book. It has obviously changed greatly since I last saw a draft, and other authors have become involved. I was especially impressed with the explanation of the types and subtypes of the influenza A viruses – this is not an easy thing to explain in lay terms, but you have succeeded. The book also grasps the principles of vaccination versus drug therapy: these are often confused in the minds of the public.

I was equally impressed with the sections on what I term "self reliance", "personal and family preparedness" and "provident living". These ideas seem almost alien to some people who seem to believe that "the government" will always take care of us: a triumph of optimism over experience.

This is a very timely and topical publication, but one that also teaches that some basic principles of a happy and healthy life are eternal.

The descriptions of the influenza viruses, their classification, their modes of infection and their past histories of epidemics and pandemics are explained simply and logically. The explanations of the virology and epidemiology are such that they can be easily understood by any reader.

The suggestions for personal and public hygiene, for personal health and diet, and for personal and family preparedness are simple, straightforward and easily achieved. The suggestions are such that following them at any time would be eminently sensible. The recommendations for personal and family preparedness, for provident living and for self reliance are ones that would benefit all families and individuals."

"Ignorance is a silent killer. I thought I would know all there is to know in protecting myself and my family against the imminent attack of the swine flu. After having read the Pandemic Preparedness Package I realize there is so much more that can be done to defend oneself in every possible scenario against this potentially lethal virus. We owe it to ourselves and those we love to do all that we can to guard ourselves, and this book is the perfect guide in helping us do just that."

"If you're going to treat yourself to only one book this year, it has to be the Pandemic Preparedness Package. This book offers a comprehensive detailing of all for wihich we should know and be equipped once the bird and swine flu reaches pandemic proportions as is anticipated worldwide. Being prepared and helping to keep the virus at bay is the way to survive the onslaught. This book features ALL from the obvious to the attentiveness that would never have crossed our minds."

"The thought of either me or my family contracting the swine flu (which is expected to reach pandemic proportions in the United States later this year) is terrifying! After having read the Pandemic Preparedness Package, I realize the real terror comes from being uninformed. The wealth of information in this book features all that we need to know in protecting and riding out this frightening and potentially deadly virus."

"Hi Lorena,

This is the first time I've ever written a review of a book but I just had to say this is just what I wanted. I'm no academic and just needed to know the facts about this virus so I could understand it without a load of medical jargon.

You've done it brilliantly! I'm still dipping into it... it's so practical and it's really reassured me (and my family) of not only what we could expect but more importantly how to prepare both materially and mentally.

Many thanks"

"For the attention of Lorena Tonarelli and Chris Barber

I've been searching on- and off-line information on not only swine flu but also preparedness in general. Unfortunately, what I found seemed to be hyped up by the media or lacked any real detail or depth.

As a former Registered Nurse, I am used to reading unbiased material supported by the latest research and references. When I received your copy I half expected the same; but what a surprise! You've really produced the goods here, as it's not only readable and practical, but it has actually opened up areas I hadn't even thought of.

This manual of yours filled a substantial gap in my knowledge. Congratulations and thanks."

"Dear Lorena,

Thanks for the book which arrived yesterday morning. I started reading it straight away and, although I'm not saying I'm not still worried about this, especially for my kiddies, but I do feel that I've got something to help me cope with what could happen.

What I particularly like about it is that I can look up some practical solutions as and when news comes our way. In a lot of cases I'd like to know more and this book does just that. Good to know it's there when you need it.

Thanks"

"Hi Lorena,

I know you started on this project a few years ago... just how did you know it would happen? I have to say I've noticed so many people now ‘jumping on the swine-flu bandwagon’ bluntly exploiting the situation. I don't mind telling you I was a bit sceptical at first when I read about it but now I'm really pleased that I've discovered your book. You tell it the way it is. Not only that, I really like the way that it's laid out so if I've got a problem or want more information it's there ready at hand. Wishing you every success."

Post Pandemic Phase:

In the post-pandemic period, influenza disease activity will have returned to levels normally seen for seasonal influenza. It is expected that the pandemic virus will behave as a seasonal influenza A virus. At this stage, it is important to maintain surveillance and update pandemic preparedness and response plans accordingly.
